Sewing Up Skills for Ballet

Sewing skills for ballet is an intimidating challenge, but once you are able to do it, nothing will be stopping you for sure! There are so many basic techniques to learn. They are the base with which other ballet techniques are strongly anchored. This is really important to learn since it will help an aspiring ballerina become the true ballerina she is hoping to become. Russian is a pretty good way to start, and here are the moves you can try for yourself.

Turn Out Those Legs!
Legs must be turned out as a basic position. This is a good way to ensure that the foot movements are emphasized whether static or moving. This is a bit tricky to do since some people like forcing it and end up injuring themselves in the process. Now, if you are unsure, slowly wean yourself towards doing this extremely out-of-the-ordinary position. The inner thigh must be exposed forward at a certain angle you can manage.

Position Your Arms
There are six major arm movements, namely, first, second, demi-second, third, fourth and fifth.

First: Arms are curved, tips on fingers resting on thighs.
Second: Below shoulder level, the arms are raised with a graceful slight curve.
Demi-Second: Cut back the second position to half, and make the angle 45 degrees in the arms.
Third: This is to emphasize shoulders. It is the first position with the arms raised upwards.
Fourth: This is where one arm is in second position. The other hand is on fifth position.
Fifth: This is a slight modification of the first position, with palms not facing the audience.

Five Leg Position
There are five leg positions to master in the Russian basic style. If you are able to learn them, other techniques will be a bit easier for you. This is really something you need to practice well in order to make the most of basic ballet. Footwork is really the heart of good ballet performance.

First Position: This is the position where the feet are almost 180 degrees with respect to each other. But heels are still lodged together.
Second Position: From first position, you give a gap or space in between.
Third Position: This position is defined as an overlap of the two feet. One foot on top of the other.
Fourth Position: In this position, foot is overlapping but there is space in between.
Fifth Position: This is a tighter version on the fourth position.
